Prof. Dr. Cemil Ata graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Forestry in 1969. He completed his doctorate programme in 1975 and became Associate Professors in 1980. He has worked more than 22 years in Black Sea Technical University, in departments of Forestry Engineering and Landscape Architecture. He got his Professorship in 1988. In 1992, he established departments of Forestry Engineering and Landscape Architecture as the Dean of Bartın Forestry Faculty. In 1997, he started teaching in the department of Landscape Architecture of Fine Arts Faculty in Yeditepe University, where he established the department of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture departments under Faculty of Architecture. He has been in many academic and managerial positions in Yeditepe University with over 22 years of experience. Between 1976 and 2000, he has been part of many academic projects and worked abroad for some time, in countries such as United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Russia, Azerbaijan and Portugal. In 1987, he attended lectures in Oxford University as Visiting Professor. Prof. Dr. Ata has seven published textbooks, many articles and reports. He has been the executive director of Atatürk Arboretum Project since 2003 and he is still teaching in Yeditepe University, the Faculty of Architecture.
